WILD THING RETURNS TO IRELAND
How great is it to see a healthy looking John Daly back playing golf, and good golf at that. Hopefully now he can stay on the right track and focus on climbing up the world rankings again. There is no doubt that Daly possesses immense ability but sometimes in the past (quite often actually) he would completely loose the plot! I’m hoping that we don’t see this happen again and that Daly has turned a corner. However, we cant say that we are 100% confident that he will maintain this new placid front he is displaying on the course and in front of the media…..you just always feel with John that the next outburst is brewing!
That doesn’t take away from John’s golf though and he has said he feels at home in Ireland. Coming off last weeks second place finish in Italy and knowing John’s liking for links courses, we think he might just produce a good performance this week. We Get Golf might be recommending this a little from the heart as opposed to head, but John Daly at 6/1 for a top 10 finish seems like good value. We Get Golf have also been well impressed with Gareth Maybin’s form this season and at 6/1 for a top 10 finish, this is another bet we recommend you take a look at.
Potential winners are a plenty this week including Irish hopefuls Padraig Harrington (12/1) and Rory McIlroy (15/1) but it is Graeme McDowell who is our preferred Irish man this week. At 30/1, we believe he warrants a mention and are expecting a good week from the Northern Irish man who we have seen in the past, is comfortable on links courses.
Finally, Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano is having a remarkable season and form is always important. he is 33/1 and so, it is difficult not to be tempted. The Danes always seem to do well also at the Irish open so the likes of Thomas Bjorn and Soren Hansen should be kept in mind.
Verdict
Very difficult but we think the winner could come from either Graeme McDowell (30/1), Gonzalo Fernandez Castano (33/1) or Soren Hansen (40/1). Our preferred choice is marginally Castano at 33/1.
Of the top-10 finishers, John Daly (6/1) and Gareth Maybin (6/1) could give you a run for your money.
