Open de Esapana - Halfway Stage Update
Thomas Levet shot a great 67 to follow up yesterdays stunning 64 to reach the halfway stage at -13 (131). He leads overnight leader Soren Hansen by 2 shots. Hansen double-bogeyed his final hole for a 2 under par 70. Defending champion Peter Lawrie had a fantastic 66 to lie 3 shots back on 10 under par. At the beginning of the tournament, We Get Golf were tempted to back Lawrie at a whopping 80/1 after he showed signs of form with a final round 66 in the Ballantines Championship. Whether we will rue this or not remains to be seen but at this early stage, it appears we might. Alejandro Canizares (69) and Chris Wood (70) make up the remaining place positions on 8 under.
Rafael Cabrera-Bello was one of our tips at 40/1 and he is well positioned at the halfeway stage, following up yesterdays 70 with a great 67. As we have have said before, we believe he can win on tour so are not surprised by his strong form. Another 67 tomorrow would give him a great chance one suspects. As long as he pushes his way into the places, We Get Golf will be well pleased.
In form Gonzalo Fernandez Castano was our other fancy this week at 16/1. He was also the market leader in the betting. At one stage Gonzo was 4-over par for the tournament. However, he is extremely gutsy and has managed to get to 3-under par. Although 10 shots behind, we know he is capable of going low and I wouldn’t rule out a 65 from Gonzo tomorrow.
