Feeling the Recessionary Blues? - Have a laugh on me!

A man was walking down the street when he was accosted by a particularly dirty and shabby-looking homeless man (see above) who asked him for a couple of dollars for dinner.

The man took out his wallet, extracted ten dollars and asked, ‘If I give you this money, will you buy some beer with it instead of dinner?’ No, I had to stop drinking years ago, ‘the homeless man replied.

‘Will you use it t o go fishing instead of buying food?’ the man asked.’ No, I don’t waste time fishing, ‘the homeless man said. ‘I need to spend all my time trying to stay alive.’

‘Will you spend this on greens fees at a golf course instead of food?’ the man asked.  ‘Are you NUTS!’ replied the homeless man. ‘I haven’t played golf in 20 years!’

‘Will you spend the money on a woman in the red light district instead of food?’ the man asked.’ What disease would I get for ten lousy bucks?’ exclaimed the homeless man.

‘Well, ’said the man, ‘I’m not going to give you the money. Instead, I’m going to take you home for a terrific dinner cooked by my wife.’ The homeless man was astounded.’ Won’t your wife be furious with you for doing that? I know I’m dirty, and I probably smell pretty disgusting.’

The man replied, ‘That’s okay. It’s important for her to see what a man looks like after he has given up beer, fishing, golf, and women.’

Newsletter

Hi All,

I did not write a new post recently because I have been involved in creating a newsletter for my local golf club, Dunmore, in West Cork. There was no professional tournament in Europe this week and nothing really caught my attention in the Buick Invitational in the US so I left the betting tips alone this week.

Im delghted that one of my “Top Tips 2009″ has come in at this early stage of the season. Rory McIlroy did the business by winning the Dubai Desert Classic. If you backed him at 10/11 to win on the European Tour as I suggested, you are sitting on a nice little profit. However, I also said you could double or treble him up with the likes of Robert Karlsson and Graeme McDowell. If you have done so, you have a very exciting, and potentially profitable few months ahead of you.

No More Monty Magic?

This week, one of Europe’s best ever Ryder Cup players, Colin Montgomerie was named as the incoming captain for the matches in Celtic Manor 2010. Often cited for his failure thus far, to win a major championship, Monty has been Europe’s leader in the Ryder Cups over the past two decades.

Colin has been a member of the European team on 8 occasions and has never lost in a singles match. He holds a win-lose-draw record of 20-9-7, thus giving him a total points scored tally of 23.5, only 1.5 points behind the all time record held by Nick Faldo. I was not surprised therefore that Monty was not picked by Faldo for the last Ryder Cup…Faldo is a self-serving, obnoxious individual and in my opinion, loosing his record as all time European points leader to Monty was not an option.

But now the time has come for Monty to stand down and lead the troops into battle and regain the Ryder Cup. I have no doubts he will be a great captain as he has the charisma and will to win. He is a born champion and the players will want to win for him. However, I believe he is relinquishing his status as a player too early. True, by 2010, he may be struggling to find form but I would wait until the last minute before deciding. Europe missed his presence this year. As as gritty as individuals as Harrington and Westwood are, they are not inspirational figures like Monty.

Im going to miss watching Monty in the Ryder Cup. Although sometimes cranky and sulky, he was extremely proud and his determination when he represented Europe was fantastic to watch. The likes of Tiger Woods could learn from Montys Ryder Cup style. Best of luck now to him as captain. I am sure he will do the position proud and bring the cup back to Europe…where it belongs!
